Things to Do & Local Recommendations

Food

  • Hookfish for excellent fresh fish. Arthur's order: fish and chips. Helen's order: tuna burger. To share: poke nachos and an agua fresca
  • Arsicault across the street from our apartment! We love their buttery croissant and kouign amann.
  • Yuanbao Jiaozi for the best chinese comfort food. Chicken & corn dumplings and beef noodle soup are our favorites here.
  • The Laundromat for the fluffiest egg everything bagels in the morning & delicious pizza in the evening.
  • Pho 2000 for the brave and hungover – delicious pho and banh xeo in a slightly rough area
  • Molinari for the cutest North Beach stroll & really yummy Italian deli sandwiches
  • Stella Pastry for tiramisu, cannoli, espresso. Take it to Washington Square up the street.
  • Marco Polo pandan ice cream 🙂

Coffee

  • The Depot Cafe and Bookstore, a cute cafe near the venue.
  • Equator Coffees, has nice matcha too.
  • Breck's, cozy neighborhood cafe that also serves wine.

Parks

To walk off the food:

  • Blue Heron Lake for some excellent birdwatching

  • Take the ferry to Angel Island to learn some cool history

Our Story

We were supposed to go on our first date in New York. Helen was doing her internship and Arthur was in town visiting friends. However, when Helen found out her friend Jo was flying in for the weekend, she flaked on him (gasp!).

Arthur told Helen that after the summer we could hang out in the Bay Area, but was pretty sure it would never happen. She did actually reach out again, and it has been happily ever after since then :)
